A Place to Put Your Head

The Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp can host up to 229 individuals over three different areas.  The three accommodation facilities offer a range of sleeping capacities and can be hired separately or can be combined to cater for larger groups. All accommodation areas are wheel chair friendly and we can cater to a range of disabilities.

Main Camp

The hub of the Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp provides lodgings for up to 184 people over four barrack style dorms, all with easy to clean polished wooden floors. Each dorm itself houses 45 people in an open plan setting with most containing a few single rooms for those wanting a bit more privacy. Separate lodgings for up to four people in the two roomed Cooks Quarters, which boasts its own bathroom facilities, is available. The large male and female ablution blocks are separated into toilets and showers with alternative facilities for the adults, while the modern commercial kitchen and dining room can easily host up to 200 people. Expansive sea views from the deck make dining alfresco a pleasurable experience while during winter the wood burning fireplace ensures a cosy setting.

The Lodge

An attractive heritage building designed to accommodate 34 individuals within bunk rooms. It is located in a prime position just above the beach and shaded by a large old Pohutukawa tree making this area an ideal spot for corporate retreats or larger family groups. The Lodge is a self contained house with its own well stocked modern kitchen, open plan dining area and separate male and female toilets and showers. The Lodge hirers can enjoy views looking north out on Tiritiri Matangi and Auckland's East Coast Bays while sitting on the covered deck enjoying a BBQ cooked meal. A wood burning fireplace ensures warmth in the winter, while two sets of double doors open out to let the summer breezes sweep through. Hirers of the Lodge also have access to a fleet of sit-on-top kayaks that can be utilised at their own leisure in the confines of the Administration Bay.

The Cottage

The old Commanding Officers quarters sits just above the beach with unobstructed views north of the Hauraki Gulf and Auckland's' East Coast Bays. With the capacity to sleep 10 people over three rooms this "bach" style accommodation is cosy and comfortable making it an ideal place to relax during a weekend retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city or find that well needed space away from all the over-excited students. An open wood burning fire reinforces the feeling of days gone by and guarantees warmth throughout the winter months, while the large grass area, picnic table and BBQ ensure that the most is made of the views during those long summer days.
